SS Badger Leaves Port
The last coal fired carferry on the great lakes, the SS Badger, leaves port. During the peak of carferry activity, in the 1960's, there were seven or eight of these ships sailing out of Ludington, MI to various ports in Wisconsin. They carried both passenger cars as well as rail cars. Now the Badger carries semi tractor trailers and passenger cars as a short cut around Chicago and all of the toll booths.
