Raven Feather

While visiting Round Island off the coast of Alaska, we found that the major predators of nesting seabirds and their eggs were the Common Ravens. These big, black birds occasionally shed their flight feathers, and that's what I photographed here. Note the intricate details of this feather, which allow it to be light in weight and strong--as well as beautiful in its simple design.
