Dunes and Blue Sky

Across the Columbia River from where I photographed this white dune lies one of the most interesting industrial sites in North America. This is Hanford Reach, a place of natural beauty in the sagebrush desert that also happens to be where much of the plutonium used in America's nuclear bombs was manufactured. There are numerous decommissioned nuclear reactors, as well as thousands upon thousands of pounds of nuclear waste that is being processed. But all that is far from my mind as I trudge up a dune to create photographs like this one.
