Alaskan Purple Haze
While flying to a remote section of Alaska, I photographed out the window of the plane using a polarizing filter. I hadn't realized it, but the polarizing filter, in combination with the plastic plane window glazing, creates something called a birefringent effect, in which colors are distorted due to manufacturing and mounting stresses in the plastic. As any good photographer might, I took advantage of the unexpected, and made some good pictures with the distorted colors. This was my favorite.
